US firm Bioenergy DevCo, based in Maryland, has acquired BTS Biogas, which will operate as an affiliate and enable new operation and expansion of anaerobic digestion in North America. Headquartered in Bruneck, Italy, BTS Biogas is a European pioneer in the field of anaerobic digestion with a 20-year history in the industry and 200 plants located around the world.

US anaerobic digestion (AD) specialist Bioenergy Development Company (BDC) has secured a USD-106-milllion (EUR 94.7m) institutional investment from Newlight Partners LP.
Based in Howard County, Maryland, BDC develops AD facilities that transfer organic waste into renewable natural gas and an organic soil amendment.  It plans to use the fresh funds to grow its operation footprint in North America.

A clean energy company headquartered in Columbia has raised $106 million in new funding to support continued growth in Maryland and throughout North America. Bioenergy Development Co. earned the private equity investment from Newlight Partners LP, a fund recently spun out from the Strategic Investments Group at New York's Soros Fund Management LLC. The round is the largest raised by any company in the state so far this year. Shawn Kreloff, Bioenergy DevCo's CEO, said the company plans to use the investment funding to develop several new anaerobic digestion facilities in North America.

Bioenergy DevCo (BDC), a developer of more than 200 anerobic digestion facilities in Europe, has announced new financing to fuel a U.S. expansion. A $106 million investment from Newlight Partners is expected to help cover the risk capital for 20-plus new facilities. The first U.S. digester from BTS Biogas (a wholly owned subsidiary of BDC) is slated for Jessup, Maryland. The 100,000 ton-per-year facility will be co-located with the Maryland Food Center Authority, a major food distribution hub. Three other U.S. projects are also in the works.

Newlight Partners has invested $106 million in Bioenergy Development Co., as the private-equity firm continues to pursue renewable-energy deals after spinning out of Soros Fund Management last year. Based in Columbia, Md., the company, also known as Bioenergy DevCo, builds and operates anaerobic-digestion facilities that produce natural gas and fertilizer. The process uses microorganisms to convert organic waste into fuel and digestate, a material rich in soil nutrients. (PDF attached)
